Types of insulation

Solid Wall Insulation

Most houses built before 1920 are likely to have solid walls rather than cavity walls. Solid walls are known to cause almost double the heat loss of a cavity wall. But don’t worry, you’re able to get Solid Wall Insulation too. This can be done on the inside, outside, or both and save heat from escaping your home. They keep hot air in and cold air out meaning a more comfortable, energy efficient home all year round.

Internal or external insulation?

Internal wall insulation is done by fitting rigid insulation boards to the wall, or by building a stud wall filled in with mineral wool fibre. External wall insulation involves fixing a layer of insulation material to the wall, then covering it with a special type of render (plasterwork) or cladding. The finish can be smooth, textured, painted, tiled, panelled, pebble-dashed, or finished with brick slips.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Installation costs for solid wall insulation are higher than cavity walls, but you stand to save much more too. Contact local insulation specialists to find out what insulation suits you and how much you could save on your energy bills.

Roof Insulation

We all know heat rises. Depending on your roof, a non-insulated roof can account for up to 30% of heat loss in your home. Insulating your loft, roof or attic is a cost effective and efficient way to help prevent unnecessary heat loss and reduce energy bills. Matting, Loose Fill, Boards or Blown? There are many types of insulation out there so get in touch with an insulation specialist to find out what suits you best. Insulation in your loft or roof is healthy, inexpensive, can last well over 30 years and pays for it self time and again in that time.
